An 18-year-old Joliet resident has tragically died following a two-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday night in Shorewood, Illinois, according to the Shorewood Police Department. The incident marks the department’s first traffic fatality of 2026 and is currently under active investigation.
Authorities have identified the victim as Isaak Torres, an 18-year-old from Joliet, as confirmed by the Will County Coroner’s Office. The crash occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Route 59, just north of Ridge Drive, near the Hammel Woods area. Shorewood Police and the Troy Fire Protection District were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a serious collision involving two vehicles.
According to officials, both drivers were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles. Emergency responders from Troy Emergency Medical Services transported both individuals to Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet for treatment. One driver, a 23-year-old Joliet man, sustained minor injuries and was later released from the hospital. Tragically, the second driver, 18-year-old Isaak Torres, succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital.
Due to the complexity and severity of the crash, the Shorewood Police Department requested assistance from the Illinois State Police and the Will County Emergency Management Agency to support traffic crash reconstruction and scene analysis. Investigators are working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision.
