It is with deep sadness that I share this news with our community. Lockerbie has lost a truly remarkable gentleman and an all-round top bloke. Brian Smith of the Somerton House Hotel passed away on Friday, shortly after celebrating his 50th birthday.
Brian was someone who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Known for his warmth, kindness, and genuine nature, he made people feel welcome the moment they crossed his path. His friendly smile and easygoing manner were a constant, and they will be remembered fondly by so many.
Over the past years, Brian showed incredible strength and courage as he fought a long and difficult battle with cancer. He faced his illness with determination and dignity, never losing his spirit. Those who knew him could not help but feel immense pride in the way he handled such a challenging journey. He was an inspiration to us all, demonstrating resilience and bravery in the face of adversity.
Brian’s passing is a great loss not only to his family but also to his many friends and the wider community. He was someone who brought people together, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
At this incredibly sad time, our heartfelt condolences go out to Brian’s family and loved ones. May they find comfort in the many memories he leaves behind and in the knowledge that he was truly cherished.
Rest in peace, Brian. Your kindness, your courage, and above all, that welcoming smile will never be forgotten.
