Claire Olverson of Newburyport, MA: Death and Obituary — Gone Too Soon: In Loving Memory of Claire Olverson

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Claire Olverson, who died peacefully on Monday, April 6, 2026, following the progression of metastatic bone cancer. Surrounded by her loving family and close friends, Claire passed with remarkable grace and courage, leaving behind a legacy defined by strength, compassion, and quiet determination far beyond her years.

Claire was born on July 16, 2012, in Newburyport, Massachusetts. She spent her entire school journey at St. Joseph Regional Catholic School in Salem, New Hampshire, where she was a dedicated, hardworking, and high-achieving student. Her commitment to academic excellence earned her a merit scholarship to Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Massachusetts, a reflection of her intelligence, perseverance, and drive. Claire held a dream of becoming an oncologist, inspired by her own experience and a heartfelt desire to help others facing illness.

Outside of her studies, Claire found joy in the simple things that brought her happiness and connection. She loved playing video games with her sister and friends, collecting slime, watching horror movies, riding roller coasters, and spending time at the beach. She had a deep love for cats and a particular fondness for calamari. These interests, together with her gentle and thoughtful nature, made her a deeply cherished presence in the lives of those who knew her.

Above all, Claire will be remembered for her extraordinary strength and selflessness. Diagnosed at the age of ten, she faced her illness with extraordinary bravery. She chose to take part in research efforts in the hope that her experience could help others in the future. Despite the challenges and pain of treatment, Claire remained resilient and courageous, never allowing hardship to diminish her spirit. Though naturally quiet and reserved, her inner strength and calm presence left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Claire was predeceased by her grandparents Donna and James Olverson, her grandfather Charles Kunovic, and her uncles Brent and Kent Pattison. She is lovingly remembered by her parents, Stephanie and David Olverson; her sister Erin; her grandmother Mary Kunovic; her aunts Judy Pattison, Kim Pattison, and Karen Boric; and many friends whose lives she touched deeply.

A wake will be held on Saturday, April 11, at Goundrey Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, New Hampshire, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Memorial Mass at St. Joseph’s Church at 12:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund Clinic in Claire’s memory.
