Two people are in critical condition following a serious five-vehicle collision on Melbourne’s Monash Freeway on Sunday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene near the Stud Road off-ramp shortly after 2pm, according to police. The crash involved five vehicles and caused significant disruption along one of the city’s busiest arterial roads.
A total of five մարդկանց were transported to hospital for treatment. Among them, an adult woman and a young boy from the same vehicle sustained critical injuries. The boy was rushed to Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, while the woman, believed to be in her 40s, was taken to The Alfred Hospital. Both are reported to have suffered serious upper body injuries and remain in a critical condition.
The remaining individuals were also taken to hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening, though their exact conditions have not yet been confirmed.
Authorities quickly closed all outbound lanes of the Monash Freeway, along with one inbound lane, to allow emergency crews to respond and begin investigations. The closures led to heavy traffic delays, with motorists urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes where possible.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including how the five vehicles came to collide. It is not yet known whether speed, road conditions, or other factors contributed to the incident.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage is being urged to come forward to assist investigators.
